Stitchy (Chicago), organized by Anthony Stepter, is a sewing party for people of all skill levels. The special guest speaker for the month of September is Etta Sandry. Check it out on Sunday, September 18th, 2011 from 7-10pm and bring something to work on!
Etta Sandry has been a regular participant at past Stitchys, but truth-be-told, she was the first person I asked to be a visiting artist and now she is finally able to fill that role! Etta is an artist, student, and does a lot of work for the visual arts program of our Pilsen neighbor Plaines Project. She recently returned from a year of volunteering and traveling in Peru where she was studying Peruvian weaving techniques. Etta is going to talk about her experience in Peru and her own practice. While this is explicitly not a workshop, she has tons of interesting weaving techniques that I’m sure she’d be happy to share with anyone interested.
Sewing, knitting, crocheting, whatever you do or want to do, you can do it at Stitchy! Bring a project to work on (new or in-progress). We’ll have a few machines, but we always encourage people to bring extras if they can. We have snacks too!
