Hanna Hur (b. 1985) takes a phenomenological approach to investigating social constructions of identity formation, (re)presentation, and personal narrative. Her work has been published and exhibited across Canada and Berlin. Upcoming projects include exhibitions at XPACE, O’Born Contemporary, and YYZ Artist Outlet. She lives and works in Toronto.
“Views on Views considers the inner workings of perception; deconstructing and reflecting on our everyday sensory experiences. Finding Keith Stone reflects on the perception of other persons. Both projects illuminate the impossibility of knowing and seeing a thing/being in itself. Rooted in Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s writings, they make a phenomenological consideration of the infinitely personal ways through which we filter and understand our surroundings.”
